Well here's a sneak peek for all you 2.0L people. First one on the market? [wave]

Mike, any word on anyone designing a heat shield for this intake? I have some sheet metal laying around that I could potentially fashion one but I'd realistically like a commercially made option lol

Literally zero. If a heat shield doesn?t completely seal off the filter from the rest of the engine bay, it?s not as effective as the marketing might make you think. Once that (metal) shield is heated up after driving around a bit, it?s questionable how much good the shield actually does. One of the Gen Coupe heat shield style intakes was dyno?d years ago before and after a spirited 45 minute drive. The before results were +14-15hp. The after results were +8-9hp, and that?s also taking whatever cool-down time was needed to get the car back on the dyno and strapped in as quickly as possible. A composite heat shield (plastic, carbon fiber or even fiberglass) would likely be much more effective, whether sealed or not. Metal is just easier for these companies to mass produce.

Either way, no, this intake and NGM?s which will be unveiled next week are basic short ram designs. As long as the filter is getting fresh air from the OEM air ducting, that?s the most important part.

NGM's is pretty darn similar design-wise. Instead of going with polished piping, they're keeping it simple-n-classy with a texture coated wrinkle black finish.


Also, the owner of NGM stated that they'll likely be using an S&B filter, similar to the ones from their Hyundai Veloster SRI's...

NGM's is pretty darn similar design-wise. Instead of going with polished piping, they're keeping it simple-n-classy with a texture coated wrinkle black finish.

I actually prefer the black look over the polished.
You know, I really do as well. They showed me pics of four different options for the finish--polished (i.e. chrome), powdercoated (basically I could have chosen any color), anodized (almost any color again, but that metallic type look if you know what I mean) and texture coated. I just went with what looks the most stock...and also something "different". We don't see many wrinkle black finishes in the KDM scene at all.

Same. I also need a blue filter lol
Funny you mention it...NGM was also considering using an Injen filter for the Stinger intake but is heavily leaning towards S&B due to a lower price and the top air inlet as well. (Injen's is closed, just like pretty much every other big brand as well). However, I'm sure I can price one with an Injen filter for ya when these hit the market. ;)

Anytime brother. Things are just REALLY hectic right now as we've got a ton of products being done right now and I'm heading up pretty much all of it myself. We're only a few guys! Well at least here at the NY location where all the order processing is done. I'm just hoping to get the darn final test fitting done so we can order some inventory!

I like the NGM better than the Greddy.
Well take the filter out of the equation and they're virtually identical. Filters are just a preference of the manufacturer, and often geographically biased too. The Greddy/Airynx setup is coming from South Korea, whereas NGM is a US-based company. Asians tend to gravitate towards the mushroom-shaped dome type filter. Here in North America we prefer cone style filters. At the end of the day these are both excellent brands.

HOWEVER....
I can tell you that you're gonna absolutely looooooove NGM's pricing. ;)
