I am looking at both the Lap 3 and the Tork Motorsports ECU tune. Looks like the Lap 3 is around $2300 with spare ECU and Tork is around $1750 with spare ECU. I am curious the opinion of both of these by the group (I have looked through all the tuning stuff but did not find this comparison). I am in a 2021 Stinger GT2 AWD and have the JB4 and PNP, 93 octane (sometimes Map3 or 4 with E85...bu daily Map 2), JA airsnorkles, and AEM drop ins (going to be putting in CAI soon).
  • How might either of these tunes (looks like Lap 3 claiming 410-430 HP and Tork stage one claiming 100 additional HP) compare to my JB4 experience (ie drive quality, 0-60 time, 1/4 miles)
  • Is one tune preferred over the other for the simple “set it and forget it”, reliability, and performance? (I am not looking for a bunch of playing around and additional work to dial things in)
  • By purchased a spare ECU, does this cover me for any warranty issues? (Ie if something goes wrong and breaks...put spare ECU in and go to dealer). With the spare ECU, will a dealer be able to see that car ran on a tune? (I don’t want to void my warranty....and I know, I know..don’t get an ECU flash...thus the question about the spare ECU)
  • Anything else I should know as I consider this vs. my current JB4
Thanks in advance for your perspectives.

Terry from BMS said on the FB performance page that techs will still be able to see you're tuned, even if you switch out ECUs. There are values stored elsewhere that are supposedly easy for them to find if they really want to.

As for numbers, they're right in line with the JB4, in fact the absolute fastest Stingers are running JB4s. An ecu-tuned Stinger may possibly FEEL better, and I'm sure it must be more convenient to only have to deal with 93, but is it cost effective to spend an extra grand or more, for the same overall performance? 🤔

Thank you! This is very helpful....I don’t want a tune that can be traced. So...looks like next steps exhaust and WMI. Have no clue how WMI works...guess I have some learning to do.

There are some very helpful and knowledgeable members and wmi experts on the Facebook page and n54 forum. You'll have plenty of support if you go that route. 👍

I'm in the same boat, I want to go faster but not sure if I want to go with WMI, CPI, or a tune. Decisions, decisions....

Yup.....I have the problem of “always want a little more”. :)....what is CPI?

Hmmmm...more e85 or more meth? So confusing
E85; this is different than WMI.
Right now the stock fuel pump can't really handle high amounts of E85. CPI allows you to safely run a higher percentage of it, which gives you more power.

CPI is good for those who don't want to deal with meth and have access to high quality E85.

Makes sense. Tough one 15-20 minute drive for e85 and may not be accessible on the road. I read that WMI is a bit easier on the engine

Both ethanol and methanol are ethyl alcohols. The former is formed from natural fermentation of corn or potatoes while meth is synthesized from natural gas. Ethanol yields a better energy rate for a combustion cycle (each drop is more "powerful" than meth). Methanol is actually more corrosive in automotive applications, which is why you run it separately vice mixing it with gasoline. Also, meth is far more toxic to humans, whereas ethanol is the same as vodka or gin in it's toxicity.

All that being stated, it's much easier to get pre-mixed water/meth, pour it in a container and drive than testing E85, mixing the correct amount for the fuel in the tank (you calculate based upon the octane, volume and ethanol quality) and doing that EVERY time you fill up...oh, and possibly storing 5-10 gallons of E85 (which you have to dispose of after 30 days, or put tons of stabilizer in it and hope it doesn't drop in quality) at home.

But...unless you get 80% or higher meth mixture, E85 will get you more power. The problem with this platform is the fuel system cannot yet run straight E85. The gains from E40-50 are minimal over E30 as of yet, due to limitation on fuel pumps.

Thank you…helpful! Still on the fence on this for sure.

I was looking at doing a lap3 1.5 tune for a 2024 genesis g70 and was wondering how reliable is a lap3 ecu?
